Welcome to the column taper illusion study.  This is an evolving examination into what makes the Doric columns of the ancient Greek temples look like they are leaning. Below are links to the current conditions.  They may look similar but each condition is different. You may do one or all of the conditions any number of times. If you have any comments or questions about the study please email me.

Instructions

The screen you will see will either look like the image below or the columns will be horizontal:

When you start the outer two columns will be tilted, either both towards or away from the center column.  Your task is to line them up so that they appear parallel to the center one.  Thus you will either make the columns appear vertical or horizontal.  The arrows pointing to the right rotate the outer columns to lean towards the center columns.  The left arrows rotate the outer columns away from the central columns.  The double arrows make larger steps in the same direction as the single arrows.  When the three columns appear vertical or horizontal, click the button with the red ball.
