The following of some of the limitations of the model to date:

It is one dimensional
It is of a very limited extent spatially
The input cannot be really temporally modulated
It is hard to really vary the input to examine what happens on the output
Only X cells are modeled
The X cells do not show the dependence of the center size to temporal frequency as shown my Troy and Enroth-Cugell (1989)
You cannot really observer the output over time
The effects of the tremor eye movements are not well modeled (Carpenter, 1977)
